• The U.S. Department of Agriculture's SNAP helps low-income Americans meet their nutritional needs.
• The N.D. Department of Human Services issues about $8 million in food assistance benefits each month to state residents.
• Each month, an average of about 27,232 households in N.D. receive SNAP benefits. Forty-four percent of the program participants are children, and 42 percent of the households had earned income (are working).
• Divide County has less than 50 households receiving SNAP benefits. Those households receive around $15,000 in benefits.
• Benefits are issued on EBT cards and can only be used to buy food products at grocers, farmers markets and other USDA-approved vendors.
